Dena Manka, PT
I have been a physical therapist since 1987 after graduating from Fresno State University. I believe in a full body integrated approach when dealing with specific physical complaints. I have been working at Humboldt Physical Therapy for five years now. One reason I appreciate working here is I am able to spend quality time with my patients. I value hands on body work, instructing patients in correct body mechanics, postural positioning and stabilization. Initially, as a young therapist, I started out with a primary focus on sports medicine. Recently, I have developed an interest in pelvic rehabilitation practices. As a woman who is a mother and has gone through many different stages in life, I feel that there is a significant need for pelvic health services and that I have a unique perspective to bring to this area of PT because of my own experiences. I have taken several courses from Herman and Wallace Rehabilitation Institute, which is at the forefront of pelvic rehabilitation education. In my free time I like to garden, hike, backpack and do handwork projects.
Laura Moosbrugger, PTA
Laura joined the HPT team in October 2015 after completing a 5 week internship here. She graduated from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse NY with her Physical Therapy Assistant degree. Before graduating Laura also interned in both a hospital and pediatric setting. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. Laura is passionate about helping others and thoroughly enjoys working in the outpatient setting with her skilled coworkers.
In her free time, Laura loves spending time with her young daughter and exploring the beautiful beaches and redwoods in her community. She also enjoys traveling, hiking and baking.
Nate Blum, PTA
Nate joined the team in August 2017. He shadowed James in 2015 before going to school at College of Sequoias in Visalia to earn his Physical Therapy Assistant degree. After graduation, Nate was ready to move back to the north coast. During Nate's education, he gained experience interning at two different outpatient clinics that specialized in orthopedics as well as a skilled nursing facility that provided valuable insight into the treatment of patient's that have a greater complexity and diversity of conditions.
Aside from physical therapy, Nate has a B.G.S. in Geography and spent 7 years working in outdoor education programs for children, as well as developing programming for after school programs and preschools that are centered around a nature-based and team-building approach. He spends much of his free time being outside and going on adventures.
